“you may lose your sense of humour after a long day of 5-8 hours, but that’s the way its designed”

MadRon is BACK

Organised by RappRacing & Monchique Enduro

After the resounding success of MadRon 2015 we can proudly announce that 2016 will see the second running of the MadRon Hard Enduro.

Quickly establishing a cult following, MadRon is a GPS based “Hard Enduro” around the forests and secret spots in the mountains above the Algarve. It’s a proper test of skill and suited to the lighter enduro bikes. Danny, Max and Julian have got into their stride this year, after hosting some smaller more demanding groups, so the 2016 MadRon will now benefit and evolve to be a little bit tougher. To counter the harder sections there is a “green route” should you have a meltdown in any or all of the sections. There is a mix of going from long open fast track to goat track, sand, ravines, river bed and rocks…..you may lose your sense of humour after a long day of 5-8 hours, but that’s the way its designed.

Again, for 2016 we have resisted the urge to make MadRon fully timed, instead settling for a fun timed prologue which will be a punchy blast on the first afternoon and then 3 days of more hard but natural and self fulfilling ride at your maximum sustainable safe pace.

Each morning your GPS is returned to you with that day’s routes and you leave when you are ready. That is either in a small group or alone, it’s your choice. Static and riding Marshalls will monitor areas and then sweepers will close the track after the last rider has passed through. The fuel/water stops are sited with 2 strokes in mind.

Compatible gps devices are those that operate to a specific standard that we can easily upload the routes to.

There are not enough track tapes (markers) to navigate the routes therefore you must bring your own GPS. Please clear the memory beforehand as it will be deleted. As soon as you arrive please hand over your GPS to us for the initial days track. When you return in the evenings your GPS must be handed in for the next days route.

The hub of the event is Bica Boa. Bica Boa is a small relaxed privately run hotel about 5 mins walk north of Monchique town centre. This is our main recommendation but with only a handful of rooms it sells out very quickly.

Our second choice is the chic and newly re-opened Mcdonald Monchique Resort, a fantastic and well priced boutique spa hotel just south of Monchique….there are plenty of rooms and parking.

The are many hotels to choose from and some nice villas to be rented for not a lot of money…..
